Shrivardhan Beach - A beach in the Peshwa backyard..
Shrivardhan is a secluded beach near Pune with sun kissed sands on a spectacular beach. Shrivardhan has a nice atmosphere with unpolluted air and the beach at Shrivardhan is a clean beach. Shrivardhan is a nice place to spend an evenings watching the sunset. Shrivardhan a sleepy town about 165 kms from Pune is rustic hamlet as is the case of most of the Konkan beaches.
A vacation in Shrivardhan and for that matter a weekend in Shrivardhan can be made special beacause there are three of the best beaches near pune in a stretch here - Shrivardhan-Harihareshwar-Diveagar. One after the other about 15 Kms from each other these beaches together make the Raigad beaches. The Kondivali beach in Shrivardhan is also a fishing port - Kalcha Jivana, and watching the life at this fishing hamlet is a great experiance in itself.
Murud Janjira
A trip to Murud - Janjira from Dighi 15 mins from Diveagar is what can make your Diveagar trip truely unforgettable. A 20 minute ferry from Dighi will get you to this formidable sea fortress. There are a few majestic cannons, which have their own names, and remind you of the many ships they must have destroyed in wars. You could also visit the janjira caves from here.
History of Shrivardhan for over 200 years is filled with magnificent tales of Maratha warriors and their valiant efforts to preserve the “Hindavi-Swaraj”. The renowned Peshwa Balaji Vishwanath was born here and was later decorated as the first Peshwa by the Sahu Maharaj. The Peshwa’s ruled the Maratha kingdom on behalf of the kings for over a century till the British overcame them.
The Somajal Devi temple
Somajal Devi temple in Shrivardhan is believed to have a diety of miracles. Locals here make unbelievable claims of "Venom Neutralisation" by the devi and it is pretty common to see snake bite victims praying to the Goddess to extract the venom and heal them in this temple!!
