For a trained individual there are many paragliding sites with perfect lift and landing sites along the ridges of Sahyadris like Panchgani Kamshet Bhandardara and Chikhaldara. Panchgani is the unofficial head quarter of paragliding in Maharashtra with some very beautiful flying sites in Bhilar, Khinger and near Tapola.

Paragliding is a form of sport flying, which offers perhaps the easiest and most fun way for almost anyone to realize the age-old dream of personal flight. While beginning skills of paragliding are easy to learn and practice, safe flying on one's own requires a broad range of skills, knowledge of airmanship and weather as well as operating limitations of a Paraglider. The courses offered include introduction to paragliding, elementary Course (P1) and advanced Paragliding - (P2). Thanks to the western ghats there are many locations for paragliding near Pune. Panchgani is the unofficial head quarter for paragliding in Maharashtra. Khinger and Bhilar, adjoining hamlets of Panchgani are also good flying sites. Tapola near Mahabaleshwar also offer a great flying site. Kamshet between Pune and Mumbai is another upcoming flying site. Flying is attempted in Matheran and Bhandardara also.

The Gliding Centre at Hadapsar, Pune is an undertaking of the DG of Civil Aviation. Currently, 3 aircrafts are being flown at the centre, which are two-seater gliders (sailplanes) manufactured by LET. GCP is open to general public and offers joy rides on Sundays. Flying usually commences on Sundays by 11:00 am subject to clearance from ATC. Registration for the flight opens at 9: 30 am.

Parasailing is recreational flying where the person supported by a canopy, is towed behind a vehicle usually a jeep. Parasailing is very common in all the Konkan beaches. Paragliding is free flight using a foot launched fabric canopy without an engine. Paragliding is a competitive adventure sport.
