Panshet - An Hour from Pune..

Panshet is primarily a destination popular with Puneites due to the proximity to the city. Panshet is just away from the city but not too far either. A popular destination, along with Sinhagad, for the cyclists from Pune its not rare to find groups of cyclists traversing the winding roads near Panshet on weekends. Panshet is also the closest water sports destination from Pune.
Nestled picturesquely between Panshet Dam and Varasgaon Dam, Panshet is a nice place for a one day excursion. If you are a water-sports freak, this is the place where you need to hit. There are facilities for kayaking, speed boat rides few water rides like 'banana' ride and water scooters. Panshet is just about 50Kms from Pune which makes it an attractive one day picnic spot from Pune. The areas adjoining the Panshet reservoir is also a popular camping ground.


About 20 Kms from Panshet dam is Varasgaon dam. Built on the Mose river Varasgaon dam is also called Veer Pasalkar dam. Panshet and Varasgaon together with Khadakwasla form the major water reservoirs near Pune supplying water to the city. With many small farmhouses dotting the small hamlet Varasgaon is a popular hiking place near Pune. 
Khadakwasla is the chowpatti of Pune. Khadakwasla is popular for the 'bhelpuri' and 'bhutta' by the lake and the merry atmosphere, more like a carnival, with camel rides and numerous chat stalls along the bay. Khadakwasla, on the way to Sinhagad, is a popular stop over on the way to Sinhagad. Very popular especially during weekends Khadakwasla is like a evening hangout for the punekar.
Easily the most popular getaway from Pune with Khadakwasla Lake on the way and the lovely drive makes Sinhagad a popular picnic and getaway spot. The Lion Fort, as it would quite literally translate into, is located 25 kilometers South of Pune perched on a steep hill. Once known as Kondhana. There are a few monuments, samadhi of Tanaji Malusare and also a summer house of Bal Gangadhar Tilak.

Water sports is the primary attraction in Panshet apart from trekking the hinterland around the Panshet reservoir. Water scooter rides and boating is quite popular here. There has been a few unfortunate incidences here due to negligence so be careful while you have fun!
