Nestled in the lofty rugged hills of the Western Ghats Malshej is a hilltop with numerous cascading waterfalls during monsoons. Pimpalgaon - Joga dam about 10 minutes from Malshej is a spot that a birdwatcher can not miss. After monsoons flocks of pink legged flamingoes arrive in this region and Malshej becomes the breeding grounds of this exotic avian. The mating dance of the flamingo is a treat to watch. Alpine Swift, Purple Moorhen and Green Pigeon can also be spotted in Malshej.
Malshej is about 150 Kms from Mumbai and Pune to Malshej is also approximately the same distance. Malshej Ghat is one of the old trade routes connecting Konkan to the Deccan Plateue which is believed to be the reason for building the cave temples in Lenyadri by budhist monks. Malshej ghat opens up easy access to many surrounding hill in this region and today is enroute many trekking spots.
Malshej is a destination with lots to see in and around it. Two Ashta Vinayaka temples - Lenyadr and Ozar are located very close to Malshej. The base village of one of the most alluring treks - Harishchandragad is about 10 Kms from Malshej. Seasonal lakes around Malshej are a bird watchers paradise as Malshej is a preferred destination of migratory flamingoes too during and after monsoons!

There are nany trekking destinations around Malshej Harishchandragad being the most popular. Jivdhan fort and the Shivneri fort are about 45 minutes drive on opposite direction from Malshej. The Lenyadri caves is another popular spot near Malshej.
