Around Shrivardhan
Shrivardhan is flanked by Harihareshwar and Diveagar on either sides and are about 20 Kms each from Shrivardhan. Both these beaches are known for its temples, Harihareshwar is known as the Dakshin Kashi while Diveagar is renowned for the Suvarna Ganesh Temple. Dighi is a port 15 kms ahead of Diveagar from where you can visit the most famous sea fort in Maharashtra - Murud Janjira
Kondivali beach in Shrivardhan is a very secluded cove and at one end of the beach is the Kalcha Jivana fishing port. Every evening auction of the catch happens here. Though not as huge an affair as that in Harnai the auction here is also an interesting event to witness. If you are the adventure seeker you can speak to the fisher men to take you along for fishing at night, its an absolutely exhilirating and humbling experiance at the same time!
Kuda Caves
Kuda Caves are rock-cut caves built between 1st and 5th century BC. Kuda caves is a group of 13 caves built in two levels. One can find carvings of two elephants at the cave entrance, inscriptions and several stupas of Lord Buddha in the caves. Located near Kolad, Kuda Caves can be reached from the tiny hamlet named Kuda.
Harihareshwar is famous for a temple on the seashore. Thanks to this temple Harihareshwar started featuring in the tourist map of travellers from Pune looking for beaches near Pune. The temples in Harihareshwar like The Yogeshwari and The Kalbhairav Temple is worth a visit. Harihareshwar is surrounded by four holy hills - Harihareshwar, Harshinachal, Bramhadri and Pushpadri.
On 17th November 1997 while working in coconut and bettlenut garden Shrimati Draupadi Dharma Patil, found a copper trunk weighing about 30 Kgs. In that trunk she found a 24 carat gold Ganesha mask weighing 1 Kg 325 gms. The inscription on the trunk says 1060 AD.
Later this idol was deified and instated in a temple in the village.
Bankot - Himmatgad Fort
A very beautiful fort dotting the coastline of the Konkan strip, the fort of Himmatgad, now popularly known as Bankot lies in the northern most end of Ratnagiri and can be reached from Bagmandala 5 kms from Harihareshwar by ferry across the Savitri river.
