Around Nagaon..
Nagaon is a beach destination ideal to just relax and enjoy the company of your loved ones but if you really want to move around there are a few places nearby. The Revdanda and Korlai forts are very near Nagaon so is Akshi which is just a walk away along the beach. Alibaug and Colaba fort is about seven Kms from Nagaon. The Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary can be a destination that can add variety to your Nagaon holidays.
Kihim & Varsoli - The Rocky Beaches..
Kihim is one of the most popular stretch of beach amongst the Alibaug beaches. At a distance of 18 Kms from Nagaon this stretch of beach with a rocky stretch on the northern side and an unending stretch of soft sandy beach towards the southern end.
Varsoli a small fishing hamlet is near Kihim. Though a beautiful beach visit this beach only if you can stand the smell of drying fish.
3 kms from Kihim beach, 20 kms away from Nagaon is Mapgaon at the base of the hill of Kankeshwar Temple. Enroute the trek up is "Brahma Kund", a rectangular tank surrounded by steps on all four sides with a semblence to the Pushkarini in Hampi. Kankeshwar Temple built in 1764 by Raja Ramdeorai Yadav has a silver plated idol. The temple also has a Kund known as "Brahma-Vishnu-Mahesh Kund"..
About 85 kilometers from Nagaon is the Ballaleshwar Vinayak Temple one of the Ashtavinayaka temples. Ballaleshwar Vinayak Temple has one of the rare Ganesh idols where Ganesh is shown wearing clothes as Brahmins do. On either sides of the idol are statues of Riddhi and Siddhi. The Dhundi Vinayak Temple is situated behind the main temple and as per ritual is visited before the main temple.
Colaba Fort
Colaba a sea fort less than a kilometer from the shores of Alibaug can be only accessed during low tide through a narrow strip of land which goes underwater during high tide. The ASI charges a nominal token entry fee for the visit. Fort is open during all through the year.
Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary..
Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary about half an hour drive from Kashid and trek through the jungle trails is a delightful experience. The main attraction of the Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary is the beautiful Giant Indian Squirrel, but given its shy disposition, catching a glimpse is not an easy prospect. There are over 90 different types of butterflies in Phansad Wildlife Sanctuary.
