Dabhol by the dabhol creek in itself is a great destination if you are looking for some alone time by the river and sea. However if you want to explore the surrounding areas then there are more destination than you can cover in a weekend! Ferry across the Dabhol creek and you would be greeted by yet another set of tourist destinations like Guhagar, Velneshwar and Hedvi!
Dapoli a small town in the Ratnagiri district 40 km from Dabhol is everything a holiday destination should be. A perfect place for a beach holiday, Dapoli has something for every one. With a long stretch of beach extending from Kolthare and Dabhol in the south and Kelshi in the northern end Dapoli has one of the longest stretch of beaches. The temples seaforts hotsprings and archaeological sites around Dapoli makes it a complete holiday destination
On the other side of Dabhol creek in the small village of Anjanvel is the Anjanvel light house. A nice place to visit escpecially in the evening this lighthouse was rebuilt in 1960s. The lighthouse though not very tall (30ft) affords a magnificent view as it is perched upon a steep hillock near the Gopalgad fort. Tolekeshwar Temple is just out side the lighthouse.
Discovered in 1970 Panhalekaji is a complex of 28 - 29 caves filled with exquisite art value with respect to architecture and quality of craftmanship. These budhist caves have a few inscriptions in Brahmi and Devanagari and also remnants of statues from 3 AD. Panhalekaji is about 25 Kms from Dabhol and the drive will take just over hour from Dapoli but well worth it!
Velneshwar 25 Kms from Guhagar with a cove of white sand and a temple dedicated to Shiva just 100mts away from the beach is worth a visit if you are on a longer holiday in Guhagar. Hedvi a jagrut devstan with the Shree DashaBhuj Laxmi Ganesh Temple is just 5kms ahead of Velneshwar. "Baman ghal" is a interesting spot where water gushes in a rock cut gorge a on the rocky shores of Hedvi.
Guhagar, is a temple town in Ratnagiri district and in all regards with many outstanding temples in and around lives upto its reputation. Temples committed to various forms of Lord Shiva dots the entire town. Guhagar also is the first amongst the series of true white sand konkan beaches.
