Around Bhandardara..
Bhandardara is the base for two of the most beautiful and adventurous treks one can undertake in Maharashtra. Bari the base village of Kalsubai - the highest peak in Maharashtra, is about 10 kms from Bhandardara. Ratanwadi is about 25 kms from Bhandardara which is the base to one of the most alluring forts in Maharashtra - Ratangad. These two treks are amongst the most picturesque treks possible in Maharshtra.

The everest of the Sahyadris, Kalsubai trek is a dream of every avid trekker in Maharashtra to accomplish at least once. Kalsubai is a part of the Kalsubai Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary which spreads from Kalasubai to Harischandragad in Akola. The Kalsubai sanctuary is a challenge to trekkers with its rugged hilly terrain and the Kalsubai pinnacle at its height of 5500 ft is a real steep climb.
The Agasti Rishi Ashram, although under renovation, manages to attract pilgrims from all over and is an interesting place to visit during a holiday in Bhandardara. On the banks of the river Pravara this place holds many a legends. It is beleived that Ram Sita and Lakshman visited the ashram to seek the blessings of Agasti Rishi. The ashram is about 20 Kms from Bhandardara.
Nestled in the lofty rugged hills of the Western Ghats Malshej is a hilltop with numerous cascading waterfalls. Malshej Ghat is garlanded with natural splendor and magnificence, popular during the monsoons Malshej is about 80 Kms from Bhandardara. A rare attraction of this place is the Flamingos that can be seen in nearby areas of the seasonal lakes that come up especialy during monsoons
Amruteshwar Temple
The Amruteshwar temple is near Ratanwadi, locals here believe that this temple was built by Pandavas during their stay in the jungles! Built in the Hemadpanthi style, this Amruteshwar temple no matter what the truth is about who built it is certainly worth a visit.
Harishchandragad
About 50 kms from Bhandardara Harishchandragad is one of the difficult treks that one can do in Maharashtra. At a height of 4,671 feet the view of the sheer rock wall of Harishchandragad fort from Malshej Ghat is awe-inspiring. The brocken spectre a circular rainbow and the vertical cloud burst are two phenomenons that you may witness in Harishchandragad if you are lucky.
